If a certain page on an Internet site doesn't load for some reason or if a link is not functioning, the website visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, which can make the visitor leave the site. A solution in this case is a feature offered by some web hosting companies - the option to set up your own customized error pages that shall have the same layout as your website and that may contain any text or images that you would like based on the particular error. There are four popular errors which may occur and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you do not have an authorization to view a particular page; and 404, if a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In each of these scenarios, site visitors will be able to see your personalized content rather than a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Website Hosting

The custom made error pages feature is provided with every website hosting plan which we offer and you will be able to replace all generic pages with your own with no more than a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel. You will have to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a particular domain or subdomain via the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You may do this for each Internet site hosted inside the account separately, so that every group of customized pages will have the same design and style as the site it's part of. If necessary, you could always revert back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. An alternate way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have never done this before, you can simply copy the necessary code from our Help article on the subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of the Linux semi-dedicated hosting plans which we supply support customized error pages and it shall not take more than a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option can be found in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel in which you will need to input the links to the custom-made files via very simple drop-down menus and a time and effort saving interface. Keep in mind, you need to upload them in your account before that. If you don't want to use this feature at some point, you will be able to disable it just as easily and select an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to allow the custom made error pages. The file has to have a specific line of code plus a link for each error type and you can find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
