SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail safety system, that is used to confirm whether an email message was sent by an official server. Using SPF protection for a domain name will prevent the forging of email addresses created with the domain. In layman's terms: enabling this function for a domain name generates a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers which are allowed to send e-mail messages from mail boxes under the domain. When this record propagates globally, it will exist on all DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. When an email message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses tests if it comes from an official server. If it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, but if it does not originate from a server part of the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. Thus nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address and make it appear as if you're sending spam messages. This approach is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Website Hosting

When you host your domain names in a website hosting account with us and we handle the emails for them, you'll be able to activate SPF protection for any of them with a few clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. This service can be found in a separate section where you can see which domain names are currently protected. For those that are not, you can enable the SPF protection solution and set up a number of things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your e-mails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and to set a rule that emails can be sent only if your domains have our MX records. The last option is the most secure one, and it can be used in the event that we handle the e-mails for your domain names and do not use some other email supplier. The newly created records will propagate within 1 day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an email by using your email addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The SPF protection feature is featured with all of the Linux semi-dedicated hosting plans, so when you host your domains in an account on our cloud web hosting platform, you are able to use this particular service with ease for all your domain names. The Hepsia Control Panel, which comes as standard with the semi-dedicated accounts, features a really easy to work with interface, which means that you don't have to be tech-savvy to protected your emails. You'll simply need to type the hostname and the IP of each mail server that you would like to be certified to send emails from your addresses and immediately after that the updated record will be activated for the domain that you have selected. As an additional option, we'll also give you the ability to restrict the outgoing e-mail messages and secure your mailboxes further by permitting e-mail messages to be sent only if the domain name in question has our MX records i.e. the email messages for the domain name have to be managed by us and not by another provider. Doing so you'll have even better control and there won't be any chance for someone to forge your e-mail addresses for malicious activities.
