Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a web server and a client. Since the data exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a website hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the alternatives are limited since you will not have root access to the server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. They are all actions which are carried out in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, which you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account with us and you'd like to deal with your content remotely through SSH, you can obtain SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package does not come with this feature as standard, you can add it with a couple of mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the CP, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You can even select what password you want to use, since it does not have to be the same as the one for your account. We've prepared a number of Help articles in which you may find all of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they're used. In addition, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you shall be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and manage them through SSH. If the plan you have chosen comes with this function by default, you just have to allow the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the feature is listed as an additional upgrade, you could quickly include it via the Add Services/Upgrades link inside the Hepsia Control Panel and it'll be available within a minute. We have a number of help articles and educational videos regarding the use of SSH commands to manage your account and a whole list of the commands that you can perform alongside a number of examples to provide you with a better understanding of what you can do. If SSH is active, you'll also be able to set up an SFTP connection to the account and to upload files securely using any FTP app that supports the function.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

The VPS server solutions that we offer provide SSH access as standard, not as an optional upgrade or a function that you must activate. As soon as your new server is prepared, you'll be able to connect and begin working on your content using the login details which you have entered through the order procedure. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via email as well. Because your VPS shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical hosting server, there are no limitations regarding what you can or can't do via SSH. You are able to download, install and manage any piece of software which will run on a Linux hosting server, reboot the entire server or only a specific software component, and work with files, folders and databases without restrictions. All you'll require for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
